Description
Measure electrical current, and check voltage, without having to break the circuit. A clamp meter opens at the jaw so you can clamp it around a single wire or cable and read the current flowing through it, which is much faster and safer than cutting into the wiring. These meters suit electricians, maintenance engineers, HVAC technicians, contractors, and workshop users, and they are used for testing motors, circuit breakers, distribution boards, air conditioners, and general electrical equipment.
The photo shows two meters, one with an orange clamp and one with a red clamp. Both have a tough black body and an easy-to-use layout:
- Clamp jaws: The large, rounded jaws open with a trigger on the side and close around a wire to measure current.
- Rotary dial: A large dial in the upper body selects the measurement function and range. The printed ranges include 1000A, 600A, 60A, and 6A, along with an OFF position.
- Digital display: A large LCD shows the reading in bold digits that are easy to read.
- Function buttons: The buttons include HOLD, to freeze a reading, MAX to show the highest reading, and ZERO to reset the display before measuring.
- Test lead sockets: COM and V/Ω sockets at the bottom let you connect test leads to measure voltage and resistance.
The orange meter is labelled as an AC clamp meter, and the red meter is labelled “AC/DC Clamp Meter”. The body is marked with a CAT III 1000V rating.
